Life Events Antecedent to Deaths by Suicide

This study intends to explore situations prior to a person's suicide by talking to survivors of suicide loss. The hope is to learn ways to prevent suicide by understanding what kind of services and professionals someone might have contacted or interacted with prior to their death. This information can help identify ways to build better connections for suicide prevention.

Participation involves a 30-45-minute interview held via phone call that asks about your loved one's health history, life events, and people they may have talked to about their life events. All responses will be kept confidential, and participation is entirely voluntary.

For this study, we are seeking the opinions of individuals who often interface with clients going through possibly distressing life transitions. This includes professionals who work in family law, unemployment services, mortgage foreclosure and self-storage. We hope to hear about these professionals' experiences in regards to how they recognize distress in clients, what they do when they see signs of distress, and any suggestions for training or resources that can help them when they have clients in distress.

This study involves a brief 15-20 minute interview via phone call that includes questions about experiences with, opinions about, and recommendations for suicide prevention within the context of one's occupation. All responses will be kept confidential and will not impact one's occupation.
